This picture which was taken during the Iraq-Iran war in the late 1980's during the Iraqi An-Anfal Campaign to defeat and force out the Iranian and Kurdish troops from the town of Halabja. The initial attack by the Iraqis included a large chemical attack which is estimated to have killed 5,000 people and injured almost 10,000 as a result of side effects to being gassed. This photo shows the aftermath of the attack in which this father attempted to save his son from the gas. it was later memorialized in a statue as pictured below.
